HISTORICAL NOTES |
Coins of this series were designed for the 5 and 10 cent (centesimi) although they were never minted. This new series was intended to replace the 25 centesimi in nickel and the large copper 5 and 10 centesimi for a total value of 20'000'000 Lire.
The beginning of World War I and the high costs of metals used to produce weapons stopped the mintage of the 5 and 10 centesimi coins while the 20 centesimi was suspended from 1915 to the end of 1918.
