The Swiss National Bank started issuing these 1000 Swiss Franc banknotes in 1978. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2000.

The bill of mille francs – mille franchi has the image of Auguste Forel, Swiss myrmecologist. Text on the paper banknote reads ‘Banque Nationale Suisse – Banca Naziunala Svizzera’.
