Pál Gyulai, falsely Paul of Gyulai (born January 25, 1826 in Cluj, Transylvania, † November 9, 1909 in Budapest) was a Hungarian poet and critic. Gyulai completed his schooling in his native city and later taught even at the local high school. He then worked as a journalist in Pest, until in 1875 he was appointed professor of Hungarian literary history at the University of Budapest. From 1858 he was a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, from 1870 Secretary of the first (linguistic and scholarly) class of the same and from 1881 President of the Kisfaludy Society. |
